DeSoto Trail Elementary School
New Construction, Remodeling, Renovations, and Site Improvements
+HSA was commissioned to provide site improvements, expand and design an addition to the kitchen, and design a new classroom addition.
The original design layout for the new addition was to be cut into the existing hillside, placing it where the basketball courts resided. Because of the excessive site demolition costs for the design, +HSA recommended a better, more cost-effective solution with a two-story building that interfaced with an existing building. The concept created a breezeway where students could display their artwork and have easy access to restrooms and vertical circulation.
The intention of the project architects was to provide the maximum amount of natural daylight into each classroom, especially maximizing the northern light into the art room.
